Recovery of San Lorenzo Beach, in Salinas Municipality, Ecuador

Description:

San Lorenzo is one of the most attractive tourism destinations in Ecuador. One of its most affected beaches and with the greatest tourist demand is made up of a closed bay 2300 meters long. For the Salinas mayor’s office, it became imperative to take measures to control the regression of the beach line and increase it to satisfy the tourist demand.

The solution:

A wave mitigation project was carried out to control the energy load on the dry face of the beach and thus eliminate erosive processes. At the same time, a beach nourishment project was designed

AxisIMA® Services:

In alliance with the local company INFOPRONT, AxisIMA® carried out the executive project and terms of reference for the tender for the work, which consisted of the construction of groins and sand pumping to provide San Lorenzo with a stable and attractive beach.

Conclusions:

An executive-level project was designed to control coastline regression along 1,750 meters of beach with a stable strip of 50 to 100 meters wide, by injecting 790,000 m3 of sand from underwater banks in the area and building 1,200 ml of rocky groins with a core of geotextile tubes.
